Handling of contaminated equipment
What is contaminated equipment?
Contaminated equipment is a general term for any material that comes in contact with a hazardous material and includes, inter alia – rags, gloves, aprons, sponges, nylon, cardboard, etc.
Contaminated equipment exists in every stream in the industrial world, whether these are rags from garages / printing industry, or whether they are rags from clean rooms – the material is treated as contaminated equipment.
There are other examples of contaminated equipment that it is not even conceivable that it would be defined in that manner.
A sponge that coats firing range walls, which absorbs lead from bullets – is equipment contaminated with hazardous materials (lead, even at a very low level is defined as a hazardous material and must be treated in the same way as defined).
Another example of contaminated equipment that may surprise laymen are oil filters found in each of our vehicles and which are directed to designated end sites – by law, from vehicle workshops.
Also pipes through which hazardous materials have been streamed, from sewage and / or chemicals to fuels and oils, are also polluted equipment.
The treatment of these pipes includes neutralization by rinsing at an authorized facility.
After neutralization, the piping can be recycled.
